Anti-dsDNA antibodies are highly specific for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
They are associated with disease activity and severity, particularly lupus nephritis.
Clinical uses include:
Confirming diagnosis of SLE, especially when ANA is positive.
Monitoring disease activity and flares.
Assessing risk of renal involvement in lupus patients.
The test is performed using a blood sample, often alongside ANA and ENA panels.
