Anti-LKM antibodies are autoantibodies targeting enzymes in liver and kidney microsomes.
They are most commonly associated with autoimmune hepatitis type 2 (AIH-2).
Clinical uses include:
Supporting diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis type 2.
Differentiating autoimmune hepatitis from other liver diseases.
Occasionally detected in chronic hepatitis C and other autoimmune conditions.
The test is performed using a blood sample, typically via ELISA or immunofluorescence methods.
