APLA IgM Test Overview

Antiphospholipid antibodies (APLA) are autoantibodies directed against phospholipid-binding proteins.

The IgM subtype is one of the antibody classes tested in suspected APS.

Clinical uses include:

Diagnosing antiphospholipid syndrome (APS).

Investigating recurrent pregnancy loss.

Evaluating patients with unexplained blood clots (venous or arterial thrombosis).

Supporting diagnosis in autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

The test is performed using a blood sample, typically via ELISA.

Analyte: IgM-class antiphospholipid antibodies in serum.

Normal Result: Negative (no IgM APLA detected).

Positive Result: Presence of IgM APLA → suggests risk of APS or related complications.

Clinical Use:

Confirms autoimmune-mediated clotting disorders.

Assists in evaluating recurrent miscarriages.

Guides treatment decisions (e.g., anticoagulation therapy).
