Apo-A1 is the major protein component of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), often called “good cholesterol.”
It plays a key role in reverse cholesterol transport, carrying cholesterol from tissues back to the liver for excretion.
Clinical uses include:
Assessing cardiovascular risk (low Apo-A1 is linked to higher risk of heart disease).
Monitoring patients with dyslipidemia, metabolic syndrome, or coronary artery disease.
Evaluating liver function, since Apo-A1 is synthesized in the liver.
Supporting diagnosis of Tangier disease and other rare lipid disorders.
The test is performed using a blood sample.
