Bleeding Time is one of the oldest tests used to assess primary hemostasis (the initial process of blood clotting).
It evaluates how well platelets and small blood vessels work together to stop bleeding.
The test is performed by making a small cut on the skin and measuring the time until bleeding stops.
Clinical uses include:
Detecting platelet function disorders.
Investigating unexplained bleeding or bruising.
Supporting diagnosis of conditions like thrombocytopenia or von Willebrand disease.
Although less commonly used today (replaced by more advanced platelet function tests), BT can still provide useful preliminary information.
