Cardiolipin IgG Antibody Test Overview

Cardiolipin antibodies are autoantibodies directed against phospholipids and associated proteins.

The IgG subtype is clinically the most significant and strongly linked to thrombosis and pregnancy complications.

Clinical uses include:

Diagnosing antiphospholipid syndrome (APS).

Investigating unexplained blood clots (venous or arterial thrombosis).

Evaluating recurrent miscarriages or pregnancy loss.

Supporting diagnosis in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) or other autoimmune diseases.

The test is performed using a blood sample, often alongside Cardiolipin IgM/IgA and Lupus Anticoagulant tests.

Analyte: IgG antibodies against cardiolipin in serum.

Normal Result: Negative (no detectable cardiolipin IgG antibodies).

Abnormal Findings:

Positive IgG antibodies: Strongly associated with APS, thrombosis, and pregnancy complications.

High titers: Indicate higher risk of clotting events and recurrent pregnancy loss.

Clinical Use:

Provides a specific marker for antiphospholipid syndrome.

Helps differentiate autoimmune causes of clotting disorders.

Guides treatment decisions (e.g., anticoagulation therapy).
