HCV antibody testing is the first step in diagnosing Hepatitis C infection.
The CLIA method provides high sensitivity and specificity compared to conventional assays.
Clinical uses include:
Screening for Hepatitis C infection in blood donors and patients.
Diagnosing acute or chronic HCV infection.
Monitoring infectivity and disease progression.
Supporting evaluation before antiviral therapy.
A positive antibody test indicates exposure to HCV, but confirmatory tests (HCV RNA PCR) are required to detect active infection.
