Total Count (TC) Test Overview

White blood cells (WBCs) are essential components of the immune system, defending the body against infections.

The TC test provides the absolute number of WBCs in blood.

Clinical uses include:

Detecting infections (bacterial, viral, parasitic).

Identifying inflammatory or autoimmune conditions.

Monitoring bone marrow function and immune status.

Supporting diagnosis of hematologic disorders such as leukemia.

The test is part of a Complete Blood Count (CBC) panel.

Analyte: Total white blood cell count.

Normal Range: 4,000 – 11,000 cells/µL of blood (varies slightly by lab).

High TC (Leukocytosis): May indicate bacterial infection, inflammation, stress, or blood cancers.

Low TC (Leukopenia): May indicate viral infection, bone marrow suppression, autoimmune disease, or drug effects.

Clinical Use:

Provides insight into immune system activity.

Detects abnormal WBC production or destruction.

Guides further diagnostic testing and treatment.
