Transferrin Saturation Test Overview

Transferrin is the main protein that transports iron in the blood.

Transferrin saturation reflects the proportion of transferrin binding sites occupied by iron.

Clinical uses include:

Diagnosing iron deficiency anemia.

Detecting iron overload conditions such as hemochromatosis.

Differentiating between iron deficiency and anemia of chronic disease.

Monitoring patients with nutritional deficiencies or chronic illness.
